Mike Schreiner released the following statement after seven young people launched court action against the Ford government for weakening Ontario’s climate targets:

“Courts have become a last line of defence against ideologically driven governments who deny the urgency of the climate crisis.

Citizens are forced to use all tools when a government Minister seeks climate denial blogs for advice.

The contrast between young people fighting for climate action and a negligent government tearing down wind turbines is stark.

These young people should not have to go to court to protect their right to life on this planet.

But this legal action is necessary because Ford's climate plan is a joke.

While scientists call for urgent, transformative action to reduce emissions, the Premier does the exact opposite.

I support these young people in holding the government’s feet to the fire.”
