Aimed at music lovers who no longer stay up late enough to enjoy Guelph’s vibrant late night music scene, the series welcomes people of all ages who want to sing with their friends, dance with their children, and still be at home in time for supper.
A number of local promoters including Hillside and Kazoo Fest have collaborated with various venues to bring over 20 quality performers to Downtown Guelph. With funding from Regional Tourism and the Downtown Guelph Business Association (DGBA), these events are all ‘Pay What You Can’, and all monies collected go directly back into the local music industry.
Says DGBA Executive Director Marty Williams “this series is great for so many reasons, one of them being that everyone involved gets paid, from the performer to the promoter to the sound tech. Respecting this philosophy ensures great quality and we are proud to be able to help make this happen”.
With acts ranging from a sing-a-long Broadway musical show, compelling vocals from Vinyl Café regular Reid Jamieson, a hard rock acoustic set from Shall Not Fall and cultural eclecticism from the FreePlay Duo, this family friendly series offers an opportunity to experience quality performances close to home. New for this year, The Making Box will perform a musical improv show at their Cork Street venue on Family Day (Monday February 19th).
Music Weekends also gives attendees a chance to check out venues they may not have been to before. There’s the dance friendly eBar with its beautifully curated art gallery, the warm and inviting surrounds of Sip Club, and the newest kid on the block, Brothers Brewing with its craft beers and unique location on the ground floor of the Petrie Building.
