MINE!
True Stories and Legends of the Porcupine GOLDRUSH

For Immediate Release - August 04, 2022

"MINE! True stories and Legends of the Porcupine Gold Rush" will be playing at the Guelph Civic Museum for the Guelph Fringe Festival August 4th and 6th.

Come along on a musical journey back in time to a world of prospectors,
pioneers, bootlegger-bandits, dog-sledders, high-graders and moonshiners!

12 new, original Folk songs tell harrowing, real-life stories of adventure and perseverance, from a unique and often-overlooked chapter of  Canadian history.

There are many famous stories from the Klondike Gold Rush in the Yukon and the California Gold Rush of 1849. There was another, even bigger gold rush, right here in Ontario, up North in the Porcupine Camp that began in 1909.

"MINE! True stories and Legends of the Porcupine Gold Rush" is a new, original, 12-song, 60-minute Solo Folk Musical written and performed byWill Gillespie, featuring original paintings by Susan Robinson and historical photos from the collection at the Timmins Museum National Exhibition Centre. It tells the stories of some of the underdogs and unsung heroes behind the legends.

Will Gillespie is an award-winning Singer-Songwriter and Playwright based out of Hamilton, Ontario, where he runs a local, independent "Mom & Pop" Theatre company called Chasing Shadows Productions with his partner Susan Robinson.

Will was born in Timmins and raised in South Porcupine, Northern Ontario, where his Scottish immigrant grandfather spent his career as a gold miner in both the Hollinger and Dome Mines.

This play is also an homage to that legacy.
