Municipal Modernization Grant

The County of Wellington and six participating member municipalities have been successful in receiving a Municipal Modernization Grant from the Government of Ontario

For Immediate Release - January 24, 2020

Under the leadership of Township of Wellington North Council and staff, the County of Wellington, Town of Minto, Township of Mapleton, Township of Centre Wellington, Township of Guelph/Eramosa and Township of Puslinch submitted an application to use Municipal Modernization Grant funding towards the cost of an independent third-party consultant to prepare an Information Technology (IT) Service Delivery Review. The collaborative application was successful and the County and the six participating member municipalities will receive up to $141,000 for this project.

Last fall, the County of Wellington and its seven member municipalities participated in an Operational Service Efficiency Review in response to the Government of Ontario’s Municipal Modernization Grant. The objective was to conduct a review of the operations within each municipality to find efficiencies and cost-savings without compromising services.

The Chief Administrative Officers for the County and all seven municipalities worked closely with KPMG to identify creative and innovative solutions that can be implemented realistically and practically to achieve greater efficiency and cost savings in service delivery. KPMG identified 20 potential efficiency opportunities. One of those opportunities was to explore common information technology (IT) systems and resources across the County and its member municipalities.

“On behalf of the County of Wellington, I would like to thank Mayor Andy Lennox and his staff for their successful application,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “This collaborative effort demonstrates our commitment to work together across Wellington County to become more efficient in delivering essential services to our residents.”

“I would like to thank Minister Steve Clark and the Government of Ontario for approving our joint application,” commented Andy Lennox, Wellington North Mayor. “The successful third-party consultant will thoroughly review our current IT service delivery models and will look for opportunities to be more efficient.”

The final report on the IT Service Delivery Review will be submitted to the Government of Ontario by the end of June.
