Elevate Guelph: A campaign to make The Bookshelf accessible to all.
Date & Time: 10:00, Friday, May 17, 2019
Place: Miijidaa, 37 Quebec St, Guelph, N1H2T1
The result of this ambitious program will make the 2nd floor of the Bookshelf Cinema and Green room (41 Quebec St) and E-bar (37 Quebec St) fully accessibility to all visitors and guests. The first step will be the construction of an elevator between the 1st and 2nd floors of 41 Quebec St.
We are indeed fortunate to have received a $100,000 grant from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund Program – Small Project component. With additional private funding we are assured that this quarter million dollar construction project will begin very shortly. Architectural design is by Grinham Architects; building permits and tendering are all in process.
Additional activities will include rerouting cinema access, an accessible gender-neutral bathroom on the 2nd floor and wheelchair access to the cinema and E-bar.
Overwhelming community support has allowed the Bookshelf to survive and thrive for over 45 years in difficult economic times. We deeply appreciate the community endorsers, who supported our application to the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund. We are thrilled that a group of Guelph citizens is launching a fundraising campaign as part of the Elevate Guelph program.
The Official Launch will include statements from Lloyd Longfield MP for Guelph, from some of the community endorsers, a preview of the construction project and a snap-shot of the fundraising campaign.
Press, city and provincial representatives, community members and the general public are all invited.
