MP Lloyd Longfield (Guelph) has been named a Co-Chair of the Government Automotive Caucus. MP Longfield will co-chair the important caucus alongside the Member of Parliament for the Riding of Cambridge, Bryan May.
The automotive sector is Canada’s largest export industry, supporting over 500,000 jobs and contributing over 18 billion annually to our economy. Ontario is home to some of the world’s top automakers, over 700 automotive parts manufacturers and 500+ tool, die and mold makers. Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, and Toyota run 12 plants in Ontario which makes the province the only jurisdiction in North America with five original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). ABC Group, IMS (Intelligent Mechatronic Systems), Magna, Linamar, Martinrea, Multimatic, MIS Electronics, Valiant and The Woodbridge Group are headquartered across Ontario, with Linamar and Polycon (a Magna subsidiary) calling Guelph home.
As an active member of the automotive caucus since being elected the Member of Parliament for Guelph, with many years of working in the automotive supply chain, MP Longfield said, “I am thrilled to be able to serve in this capacity to build on the important work the caucus has previously undertaken and the discussions that lie ahead. I was pleased to meet today with the local auto dealers who represent the front line of the automotive sector.”
