Guelph Chamber Choir presents Songfest 2016 – Cathedral Classics

The Guelph Chamber Choir cordially invites you to enjoy an afternoon of music fit for royalty in beautiful St. George’s Anglican Church on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at 2:30 pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Our ‘Songfest’ concerts allow us to share the stage with other choral groups in Guelph and the surrounding area.  For this concert we welcome singers from St. George’s Anglican Church Choir, Harcourt Memorial United Church Choir and Dublin Street United Church Choir.

The musical selections for the afternoon have been drawn from the great wealth of British cathedral music.  Works written for choir and organ or for unaccompanied choir will grace the heart and ear.

Music will include Parry’s jubilant I was Glad, Byrd’s Ave verum corpus, and selections from the splendid Mass in g minor for double choir by Vaughan Williams.  Rounding out the afternoon are favourite works from Tallis, Mendelssohn, Stanford, Haydn and Rutter.

Join with the choirs in singing great anthems such as O God Our Help in Ages Past and Jerusalem.

Conductor Gerald Neufeld noted,“A songfest is a special opportunity to bring together choirs in singing music that has thrilled audiences for hundreds of years.  Old as well as newer music heard in cathedrals, sung by a large choir together with an audience, is tremendously inspiring.  Many of the selections performed by the choirs are memorable favourites that you will recognize from royal coronations and other events.”

The concert will also feature the talents of Chris Dawes, one of Canada’s premiere organists: we are always pleased to collaborate with him, especially when we get to hear him on such a fine instrument as the great organ of St. George’s Anglican Church with its ranks of organ pipes in both the front and the back of the sanctuary.

Single tickets are now available for only $25 each or 4 for $80. We encourage young adults to attend with
$10 tickets for students and those 30 and under and only $5 for youth with eyeGO.

Tickets are available from choir or board members, through the River Run Centre by calling 519-763-3000 or online at www.riverrun.ca .  Tickets will be available at the door.  Seating is general admission, so please plan to arrive early to get a good seat!
