The CD release show takes place at Dublin Street United Church , featuring Lewis with a full band that includes her partner and producer Sam Turton, Jesse Turton, Jeff Wilson, Eve Goldberg, and special guests.
Lewis is calling the event a celebration."This project is a major work for me, and has been over a year in the making, so I want this to be a party! Hallelujah, we did it—our enthusiasm will definitely come across in the show."
The new CD, a follow-up to her well received 4-song debut EP, is an eclectic folk/pop hybrid that features 10 original songs and 2 classics, including an unusual arrangement of a famous Beatles song, which Lewis expects will be a happy surprise for listeners. Lewis has often been compared to Carole King, as her music is mainly piano-based and draws on her great strength as a lyricist and singer.
She also co-writes with Turton, and credits him for bringing a greater variety of sound and style to her music. "Writing together means that we keep pushing each other to take every song to the next level. I think we end up with better songs than we would if we were working alone."
Lewis began her music career singing backup vocals for Turton, but soon started writing her own songs and singing lead. A published author and editor, she shifted careers to pursue music full time in 2009. As well as performing, she runs a popular music workshop series called All Together Now and co-leads a monthly singalong at Magnolia Café in downtown Guelph .
