On Friday, local MPP Ted Arnott spoke at the grand reopening of the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival Rivermead headquarters, which completed its renovations with a $85,000 Capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF)

The capital grant for the 162-year-old heritage building funded energy efficient upgrades and repairs, to ensure the community has improved access to literature programming and events for years to come.

“Our sincere thanks go out to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival,” said Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott. "We also want to thank everyone associated with the Festival, our annual celebration of Canadian literature."

In addition to insulating the building and installing energy efficient windows, upgrades also included repairing the crumbling stonework and renovating the entry vestibule at Rivermead, which is a decommissioned Wesleyan church in the village of Eden Mills. Rivermead is now used by the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival for author gatherings, meetings, celebrations and fundraisers, and is available for private and community use.

"We are grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this grant, which enables us to sustain our non-profit’s vision of building a community connected through literature, as we rebuild our audience post-pandemic amid rising inflation,” said Theresa Ebden, board chair of the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival. “This grant supports our community literature festival which has become a favourite among authors and readers across Ontario. We also want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”

The Eden Mills Writers’ Festival is committed to preserving Rivermead and ensuring that it remains accessible for many community activities over the course of the year. Rivermead was donated to the festival through the generous support of Kim Lang and the Angel Gabriel Foundation in 2015. The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and making a lasting impact in communities.
