The Guelph Humane Society Receives $20,000 Donation From DocuPet

Released For Publication - March 30, 2022

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) has announced a total donation of $20,000 from The City of Guelph’s official pet licensing partner, DocuPet.

A world-leading pet profile, lost pet and licensing solution, DocuPet was brought on board by The City of Guelph in 2014 to provide residents with a quick and simple online experience for licensing pets, resulting in increased pet identification and reunification services for the entire community.

This significant gift was made possible via DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund, which collects automatic donations through designer licence tag purchases as well as direct donations made by residents through the modernized GHS DocuPet online platform.

Of the $20,000 donation aimed at providing crucial funds for animals in need, $3,500 will go towards the final pledge payment of a $10,000 capital campaign gift DocuPet set at the onset of their partnership with GHS, making their first donation of $6,500 in 2020.

To honor the impact of these funds for the community, GHS will be dedicating a bench in DocuPet's name on its “Catio” which provides a safe outdoor play space for cats. The remaining $16,500 will be allocated to Duke's Fund, which provides extensive, specialized medical care for shelter animals in need.

“We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from DocuPet to support the more than 3,000 animals GHS cares for each year,” said Deb Lobezzo, Director of Development, GHS. “This partnership has been extremely valuable to pet owners and critical to animal safety in the community. It has helped reduce the number of animals that end up in our shelter and has opened up space and essential resources for those pets that truly need our help. We thank DocuPet and the many generous residents who made this donation possible by licensing their pets.”

With a mission to provide a safe and happy home for every pet, DocuPet’s innovative platform supplies significant resources to The City of Guelph, allowing it to efficiently operate and deliver critical animal services.

“Before DocuPet, we saw under 4,000 pet licenses registered per year. Now, we are pleased to see over 10,000.” said Scott Green, Manager of Corporate and Community Safety at the City of Guelph. “Pets wearing DocuPet tags spend little to no time in the shelter versus unlicensed pets, and for those pets that do need care and support, the fees provided by licences help support shelter operations. We value our relationship with DocuPet and we look forward to continuing the partnership in order to support animal welfare in the City of Guelph.”

To celebrate the milestone donation, DocuPet is offering a $5 discount on designer tags for Guelph residents. Each DocuPet tag, standard or designer, doubles as a pet’s official license and comes equipped with DocuPet’s free HomeSafe™ lost pet service. Online, residents may browse hundreds of colourful styles, or design their own tag using DocuPet’s online tool. Furthermore, 20% of every designer tag purchase is donated to DocuPet’s Safe&Happy Fund, helping to provide crucial funding for local animals in need. Residents may use the promo code GHS5 at checkout to redeem the $5 discount.
