Handel’s Messiah Sat Dec 20th

The Guelph Chamber Choir presents Handel’s Messiah with a Baroque orchestra at the River Run Centre on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 7:30 pm.

Composed in an astonishing three weeks, Handel’s Messiah is the undisputed Christmas choral favourite throughout North America and the United Kingdom.

Conductor Gerald Neufeld commented, “Our nuanced and expressive interpretation of Messiah continues to grow in beauty each season.

With a work that performers and audience alike know and love so intimately, we can go beyond the notes to rediscover the wonder of the mystery of life and new birth.”

Four exciting young Canadian soloists join the choir and a select ensemble of Baroque instrumental specialists:

Soprano Sheila Dietrich is a Kitchener-Waterloo native and Wilfrid Laurier University graduate with a sparkling stage presence and a secure but ethereal sound. She is known for her work with Violons du Roy, Guelph Chamber Choir, The Elora Festival Singers, TACTUS and the Bach Elgar Choir. She looks forward to making her Carnegie Hall debut later this season with Les Violons du Roy.

Local countertenor Daniel Cabena, recently based in Switzerland, holds an Honours Bachelor of Music from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Doctorate of Music from l’Université de Montréal. He has been reviewed as“nothing less than excellent” and “delightful delightful with strong, articulate singing to boot.” CBC music hails him as “Canada’s next countertenor superstar.”

Guelph’s own tenor Chris Fischer also received a degree in Music from WLU before moving on to a Master of Music from Arizona State University. He is a member of The Elora Festival Singers and Arcady and has served as a section leader in the Guelph Chamber Choir since 2002. He is celebrated for his spirited, energetic performances.

Canadian bass Alexander Dobson is praised for his musicality and dramatic awareness. He recently made his London debut at the Linbury Theatre with Royal Opera House Covent Garden in the premiere of The Midnight Court by Ana Sokolovic. Mr. Dobson is also a dedicated recital artist. Derek Holman composed the song cycle Daybreak and a Candle End especially for Alexander and the Talisker Players.

Single tickets are now available for only $35 each or four for $120. We encourage young adults to attend with $10 tickets for those 30 and under and $5 eyeGO tickets for youth.
