Released For Publication - March 7, 2024 The Wellington Catholic District School Board hosted the inaugural secondary district chess tournament on March 6, 2024 at the Wellington Catholic DSB Catholic Education Centre.
Following a lengthy tradition of hosting the district elementary chess tournament, which sees over 200 students from each of our elementary schools competing for titles in their respective grades, Kellyanne Mangali, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic High School Student Senator spearheaded the development of a Secondary District Chess Tournament.

The tournament welcomed students from St. James Catholic High School, Bishop Macdonell Catholic High School, and Our Lady of Lourdes CHS for a full day, five-round chess tournament.

Over 35 students participated throughout three divisions, Junior – open to grades 9 and 10 students, Senior – open to grades 11 and 12 students and Rookie – which welcomed students from any grades who have never played in a formal chess tournament.

After five grueling rounds, we are pleased to share the following results:

				Junior
Phoenix Jasin, St. James CHS Adrian Marsili, Bishop Macdonell CHS Kiana Hostick, St. James CHS
